Callosum brings science and art from locals to the community for an interactive and engaging event. You can learn about current science topics and research from experts and gets some hands on with an art workshop.
Expand your knowledge and spark some creativity.
Callosum was created with the public audience and engagement in mind, allowing scientists to speak face to face to the public and community. This direct dialogue works to provide great SciCom practice and not just informing the public about new exciting research, but the WHY behind it, and why it's important.
As scientists we spend so long immersed at the bench, analyzing data and shaping our research's narrative for our target audiences to keep our work going: journals, grant committees, and conference audiences. The public is often a neglected audience where we can struggle to explain our work to the 99% of the population who can't parse our jargon, and lack our assumed background knowledge.
Sadly, current events highlight the grim fact that experts face greater skepticism and push-back in the current political environment. This highlights the need to improve our communication to the public, increase our work's accessibility and to put friendly faces on researchers in the community.
Callosum is a space to bring new eyes, ears, and curious minds to the work of local artists. The second goal of our events is to offer events where local artists can step up in front of different audiences and highlight their work while engaging the audiences creativity to try something new or practice an artistic skill.
